MATERIALS
Materials that grow more beautiful
Wood, stone and linen bring more than texture. They make room for the marks of everyday life.
STILLFORM Studio

We like a room that feels comfortable enough to use. A table should welcome a long lunch, a chair should invite someone to sit, and a floor should belong to the people walking across it. Choosing materials begins with that everyday experience, rather than a photograph of the finished space.
Start with touch
Before settling on a palette, place samples together and handle them. Notice the difference between a smooth painted surface and an open timber grain, between a crisp cotton and a relaxed linen. A quiet room can still have depth when its materials offer different sensations. We often work with a small family of finishes, repeating them in different proportions instead of introducing something new in every corner.
Leave room for life
Natural materials are not a promise of effortless maintenance. Ask how a finish should be cleaned and what normal wear will look like before choosing it. A sample in the studio can feel different from the same material in your home, so spend time with it in the light where it will live.
Our preference is for choices you can understand and care for. The right material is the one whose character, upkeep and feel suit your daily routines. A home gains its individuality through use; its surfaces can be part of that story.
